The sultana (Rustena) and the sultan's favourite concubine (Damira) have had babies at the same time. The sultan (Mamud) ordered Damira to swap the babies so that she brings up the heir to the throne, Zelim, while Rustina, unknowingly, brings up Damira's son, Melindo, to expect to inherit the throne.
